What Does It Take to Truly Accept Who You Are?
The Dad Project Live · 9 September 2026

About This Event
Amit Ghose joined The Dad Project Live to talk identity, difference and learning to accept the person you actually are.
He was two years old when his dad brought him to the UK, chasing treatment for a condition that would shape the rest of his life.
What does it take to truly accept who you are?
That was the question we brought into the room at Mortimer House on 9 September. It led to a conversation about identity, difference, self-worth and learning to love the person you are.
Amit lives with Neurofibromatosis Type 1, a genetic condition that has visibly shaped his face since childhood. He knows what it feels like to be stared at, and to be judged before someone knows you.
He knows what it's like to question how the world sees you, and to spend years searching for acceptance outside of yourself before finding a way to build it from the inside.
But the night was about more than living with NF1.
Because in one way or another, so many of us have parts of ourselves we've struggled to accept.
- Parts we hide.
- Parts we compare.
- Parts we wish were different.
Naroop and Amit talked about belonging, self-acceptance, and what can happen when we stop letting other people's opinions decide how we see ourselves. The audience then took over with their own questions.
You don't need to be a dad to be here.

Guest Speaker

Amit Ghose
Amit Ghose was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 at two years old. School brought years of stares, nicknames and bullying, and by his own account, it took him until his teens to stop seeing his condition as something to hide and start seeing it as something he could speak about. He's been featured in national and international press, and now speaks in schools and at conferences on confidence, appearance and acceptance.
